Killa Kans

I've just finished the article on miniwargaming.com about Killa Kans. I added 3/16" magnets to the arms so all the arms are fully interchangeable. I was really surprised because at the end of it there was nothing left on the sprues... you get one extra gun arm and one extra close combat weapon (without the arm). That's it. I'm not complaining, since you do get 3 kans in a box, and if you get the deff dread as well then you've got plenty of weapons to make competitive builds... but it is a little different.

New Deff Dread

Check this out... the new plastic Ork Deff Dread. I'm assembling and painting it for miniwargaming.com. I'm also magnetizing it so that I can do a couple different configerations. My first impression is that its an amazing kit, and even if you don't want a deff dread its worth buying for all the bitz. I'm working on an article for miniwargaming.com right now that will have the full assembly pics and how I magnetized it.

Orc Pirate Heads

Check out what the mailman delivered yesterday... I've been checking them out for a while and finally pulled the plug. They are awesome. I hadn't been sure about the scale, but they are almost exactly the same size as regular Ork boy heads (not nob heads). There are 8 different heads, and 2 doubles in a pack (10 total).

WIP shots of Njal

I had some time over the weekend to make significant progress on Njal and Logan... they are almost done now, just have to do their faces and some other minor details. Here's a couple shots:

Space Wolves vehicles article posted

I've just added Part 6 of my Space Wolves articles to miniwargaming.com. This one follows up on last week's article about airbrushing vehicles and adds all the general details to make them table top ready. I still need to do some weathering stuff to them, but its time to move on to the next project.

WIP shots of Logan Grimnar

Last night I was running the painting class at theMiniwargaming store and got a chance to work on Logan and Njal. I've basically finished their armour and started on the fur. I'm using the same paint combination for the fur as I have the rest of my army, which is the same as the one on GW's online how to paint space wolves. I still have to do the bleached bone edging on Logan, and I'll probably do some ink washes, but its starting to come together nicely. Njal still needs a lot of work on the wolf fur.

Logan and Njal (wip)

Here's some base colours and first hightlights added to these guys. There isn't a ton of armour on them so this should go reasonably fast. The fur will also be easy... but there's tons of fiddly details that will take some extra time.

I'm doing the drybrush then glaze technique for the armour and its going fairly well. I'll have to go back and blend in some gradients with the darker colours, but nothing too difficult.

Up next: Logan and Njal

Here's my latest models... I picked these guys up last Thursday and will start working on them now.

After doing Lucas I'm pretty sure they will paint up nice and fast. I've got a good technique for the armour and fur, and that covers most of the models. Its funny how obvious it is that the Logan model is old... he's practically a different scale from the rest of my Terminators.

Non Metallic Metal (test)

Here's my first go at non-metallic metal... I picked up the Reaper Learn to paint kit from miniwargaming.com during their boxing day sale. I really like how the NMM looks, but I haven't found a good guide. Anyway, I'm sure I could have found something online, but I gave this a go... here's the results of my first test... I'm sort of happy with the results, but I think it could be a lot better. Any feed back?

Lucas the Trickster

Ok, similar story with this model as Canis... saw the pictures and didn't like him, but once I started painting him I began to like it more. Its a well sculpted model, its just the facial expression I don't love. I used a bit of a different technique for the armour than I've been doing for everyone else. First difference is that I didn't use my airbrush. I did use the same Reaper paints though... So, what I started with Twilight blue as a full base coat. Then I took Reaper Snow Shadow and drybrushed it on everywhere. I tried to get every surface and what I ended up with was a textured highlight... which I don't want, but it gives me a great guideline for where I do want these colours. Now I went over it all and covered only the parts that were hit with the drybrush with a thick glaze of Snow Shadow. Since this is the same colour as the drybrush I was able to get nice coverage with one thin layer. Lastly some edge highlights with Ghost White and the armour is done. All in all he painted up really fast. Now that I've done a lot of Space Wolves doing a single model seems really quick... and I have all the colours figured out, so I don't have to experiment.

White Dwarf reviews no more

Well, it only took a couple months, but I've decided to stop doing White Dwarf reviews. I have a subscription for the year, and have been really enjoying them, but I don't see the point. I've really enjoyed the 'eavy metal articles and I like having a glossy magazine with lots of pictures. If that works for you then the $10 a month is worth it, otherwise just pick up the ones that concern your army.

Anyway, I'll delete the thing on the side at some point...
