Kador Plastic Warjack

Here's a couple more pictures of the warjack I painted up for miniwargaming.com's upcoming red power armour video. This was my first Warmachine model to paint up, and it was fairly fun. I kept it pretty simple, just red and metal colours. I used GW tinbitz and chainmail for the paint chips, and reaper paints for the red areas. This guy took about 2 hours to paint start to finish (not including drying time for washes).

As far as the plastic nature of this kit... To me it seems much more like resin than plastic, especially since there's no sprue included. The parts clean up kind of like plastic, and are definitely better to work with than metal. I magnetized the arms with 1/8 by 1/16 magnets and the head with 1/16 by 1/16 magnets.

Painting tutorial - Red power armour

Here's a couple pics from an upcoming painting video I shot for miniwargaming.com. The videos will show, from start to finish, how to paint red power armour. There will be two videos, one of a blood angels space marine and the other of a Kador warjack. I'll post more details about the videos once they have been edited.

The warjack is one of the new plastic ones, and was my first warmachine model to assemble and paint. I magnetized it up before painting (which was easy with 1/8" magnets for the arms and 1/16" for the head). There was a bit of extra flash from the multi part moulding process that they use, but nothing that bad.

Sanguinary guard painting progress

Here's a couple pictures of the Sanguinary guard I'm working on. I'm doing Dante at the same time because I figure that he should have a similar look to him. I'm basically following the GW gold method that they have used in a few masterclass articles... ie, start with shining gold and schorched brown (50-50), shining gold highlight, then shining gold and mithril, shading, and some washes followed by mithril silver edge highlights. There's a good description on the Captail Sicarius article with pictures (GW white dwarf vault).

Here's what they look like with the base coat:

and after a shining gold drybrush:

Death Company painted

Here's those same death company guys all painted up. Nothing too fancy, but speed is the name of the game here. These guys will load out at 260 points in the new codex, which is a little steep if you ask me. I'll have to get some guys with no upgrades to give them a little more killing power for lower average points per model. I'm thinking bolt guns since they are relentless (rapid fire before charging).

Full work in progress shots as well as a complete list of steps and paints used can be found here [miniwargaming.com]

Sanguinary Guard preview

Here we go, the second box that assembled for MWG... As per usual, a full article is over at miniwargaming.com. Again, these are fantastic models, but perhaps a little overboard on the "heroic scale" thing. The wrist mounted bolter is a little clunky and seems like it would get in the way of their weapons that are the same size as them... but regardless, they are fantastic models and I can't wait to get them painted. Should be soon, as I already have the death company guys done (will be posted in the next couple days).

Some of the poses are better than others... The ones where both arms are on the weapon seem a bit too crowded. Something neat though, the arms with the angelus bolter have separate hands that are amazingly detailed. There are two open hands that have each finger molded... amazing.

Anyway, here's a couple pictures:

Converted Baal Predator

Here's something that I'm going to use as an alternative turret for my Baal predator. I'll be getting one of the new kits, but I think it'll be fun to have to in my list that look a bit differnt. Its just the punisher cannon from the demolisher kit on a regular predator turret. I think it'll be a good "counts as" twin assault cannons. I hope to magnetize the side sponsons before I paint it. I'm going to be using Pure Red spray primer from army painter... I did a test tactical squad with it and was really impressed, so I'm going to do the rest of my army with it.

Preview: Death Company

Check these guys out... the new Blood Angels Death Company. I was fortunate enough to get to assemble them for miniwargaming.com, and I will be painting them up shortly. I've posted an article already (here) with lots of pictures and some of my comments. They are also up for preorder at MWG for 10% off and will ship when they are released on April 3rd (here).

Some of my thoughts... the death company kit is awesome, however its not the same as the upgrade sprues you get with other chapters. A lot of the stuff is death company specific (the X's are etched in), and you don't get stuff for dreadnoughts or vehicles. That said, there is still lots of stuff you can use with other squads, and you can mix this stuff with other tactical or assault stuff to make a larger death company.

One of the biggest improvements is that the jump packs actually fit together nicely, and there is no gap like the other ones. The mold lines are also the best I've seen on marines, and the details are fantastic.

Plastic Furioso how-to

I've just posted a full how-to article on making a plastic Furioso dreadnought over at miniwargaming.com. I used the Ironclad dreadnought and a bunch of bits from the AoBR dreadnought as well as some extra bits to decorate it a little.

Larger pictures can be found by following the link above.

This is from the Dark Angels upgrade sprue carved into a blood drop.

Blood Angels Terminator

Things are starting to gear up for the Blood Angels release, so here's something I've been working on in anticipation... Sergent Lorenzo from Space Hulk.

I should be getting my hands on some of the new mini's either Wednesday or Thursday, so be sure to check back to see them. I'm pretty excited, and can't wait to start building some lists.
