Age of Sigmar Liberator size comparison

I'm sure I'm not the first to post a size comparison, but here's another one showing the free mini beside some other Fantasy and 40k models.  He's defiantly big, but that's the idea, right?

I really want to test out a fuax-NMM paint job on this guy using my airbrush.  I realize NMM is a faux finish, but I mean faking it even more by using an airbrush.  I'm thinking I can do the main colours with the airbrush and just line highlight the gold by hand and add some blue and do the parchment.  Hopefully it will turn out and be something easy enough to replicate for the whole box when I get my hands on them.

Some other thoughts on the whole AoS shift in Fantasy.  Part of me really likes this and sees the need for the hobby to move one.  When you go to tournaments and see guys playing with 20 year old mini's you can understand why GW's sales are stalling.  They need a way to make things obsolete otherwise you can just pick up cheap 2nd hand stuff and free load.  GW's hobby has always relied on young kids buying, collecting and moving on, so I can see the need to refocus on this demographic.

On the other hand, one of the reasons I like Warhammer (40k and fantasy) is the nostalgia.  I don't want it to change, or at least change slowly.  I'm scared for what will happen to Orcs and Goblins because I don't want my army to be relegated to an OOP collection... so in the mean time I won't be painting any of that and will focus on enjoying some of the new releases and seeing where it goes.

Harlequin Unboxing and Assembly

I caved and picked up a troupe box yesterday... I had wanted to wait until the full release came out before picking anything up, but these things are trickling out so slowly that I pulled the trigger.  I'd like to put together a small band to complement my Dark Eldar, so I'll probably pick up a transport and character to go with these guys.  I'm also considering the idea of converting wyches into Harlequins... might be a decent conversion project.  The basic idea would be to put masks on heads and use Harlequin arms.

Smaug Assembly WIP 2

Here's some more pictures of Smaug showing his size... this model is huge.  I'm still working on getting the wings to fit on perfectly and add magnets so I can paint it easily.  Once I'm done them then I can add the last spikes and start painting.

In other news, I ordered a set of Badger Minitaire Paints and they arrived today.  I hope to get them out shortly and do a review of them as I'm painting Smaug.

Ork Warboss size comparisons

I just finished painting up Grukk Face Rippa from the Stormclaw box, and while I was painting him I also did a Warboss I converted from the Assault on Black Reach box.  Grukk is roughly based on that model, so I thought it would be good to compare sizes, also with Ghazghkull... see below.

Meganob Size Comparison

I just finished assembling these guys and took some pictures beside other comparison models that I thought would be helpful for those of you on the intertubes.  The comparison beside previous meganobz was done in a recent white dwarf, but I've added some extra ones, such as the big mek with Kustom Force Field, Space Marine Terminators and Centurions... see below.

Painboys side by side

I've just finished taking pictures of the new Painboy for the painting tutorial, and I thought I'd grab a couple of the older Painboy models off my shelf to compare.  Obviously the claw hand is huge, but the rest of him is a little more heroic scale than the previous painboy and the mad doc.

I'll post more pics of the new finished painboy once I have the tutorial finished.

Shokk attack Gun Side by Side

I was curious to see how closely the new plastic Shokk Attack Gun matched the old one.  Mine's metal, but its most recently been finecast.

Anyway, they are very close in size, so using both of them together would be find, unlike some other kits GW has replaced with updated models (I'm looking at you Mek gunz).

Gorkanaut Size Comparison

As with any new model from GW, its always interesting to see how its size compares to existing ones.  There seems to be a trend to larger kits (probably to charge more), so lets see how the Gorkanaut stacks up to other things.

A few items to note, the base is the new large oval base that was first seen with the Knight.  Also, I haven't glued the legs yet, so it will stand slightly taller, but that said you can't really make them straight, so its hard to make it look like its mid step.

From my eyeball (ie, not measured), its about half the size of a stompa, double the deff dread.  Its slightly bigger than the forgeworld mega dread but bulkier.  Compared to the Knight, its shorter but blikier... so a similar feel on the tabletop.

As for transport capacity, 6 orks is pushing it, but that's normal for GW transports.  3 meganobs would be cozy (pic at bottom).  I really hope its an assault vehicle, otherwise the transport capacity isn't very useful.
