X-Men United Wolverine tutorial and photos

 Here's a video showing how I painted up Wolverine from Marvel United X-Men. He's a larger scale then I'm used to, so I tried using a zenithal base and mostly transparent paints.  There were a couple false starts (blue and black), but I'm pretty happy with how bright the yellow came through.  More pictures after the jump.  Let me know who I should paint next.

Marvel United - Wolverine WIP

 I have a new project that I'm working on: Marvel United X-Men.  My brother ordered me a copy as a birthday gift and it just arrived this week.  

At this scale I'm trying some slightly different techniques from my usual warhammer style.  Firstly I'm doing a grey primer with white primer zenithal highlight as a base coat.  Next I'm using either inks or contrast paints for base coats and trying to use the base coat to skip steps.  After that I'll do some basic layering and try to get the set done to a nice table top standard with minimal time. 

I also have the basic Avengers Marvel United set and am painting them, but may not do video tutorials for them because there seems to be lots on YouTube already.

3d printed walls for Cursed City preview

 Here's a preview video of a project my brother has been working on... 3d printed walls and doors for Warhammer Quest, The Cursed City.  I've been printing some prototype parts over the past weeks (pictures after the jump), and he is using some of my painted models for his photos and videos. 

Cursed City progress update

 Here's some pictures of my Cursed City progress.  I've got two charactors done, Skeletons, zombies and a few other bits.  Most of the other stuff is primed and ready.  I'm trying to use airbrushing and contrast paints to speed up my work flow, and I'm pretty happy so far with the results.

Cursed City priming

 Here's a view of how I'm priming my cursed city models.  Black then grey from above.  Will airbrush and drybrush some white for additional zenith highlights before doing most of my colours with contrast paints.

Cursed City progress

 I've made a bit of progress on my cursed city set.  Everything is assembled and I've basically finished the skeletons.  The zombies have zenital highlights and I've primed almost everything else.

 Today’s the big day to preorder. I haven’t decided if I want to try for the online promo, the GW in store promo or FLGS route.

Crypt hunters finished

I’m calling these guys done now. Just some simple table top level paints and back into the box. Unfortunately the basing material I put on the bases means they don’t all fit nicely into the tray provided, so I may end up having to design and 3D print something.

Working on getting this set done using mostly Contrast paints for a quick table top level paint job.  Better to be painted quickly than not painted at all. 

Catching up with Underworlds

 Well, it’s been a year. I haven’t gotten much painting done but am trying to catch up before Direchasm gets released. These guys have been slowly coming along, and I'm at the point where I've decided to move on to Rippa's Snarlfangs.

So going to try and get back in the groove and pick away at the unpainted warbands from Beastgrave. I’m trying to improve my workflow by using contrast paints to lay out the base colours. Still trying to figure things out but this went pretty quick. Its hard because my technique has been block out colours (foundations/bases), shade, highlight.  This process allows me to fix things each step without having to go backwards.  With contrast I need to keep inside the lines, and this is a bit of a challenge to my speed.

Here's the full size version of the Diorama.  Lots of fun details, and a huge project.  I took longer because I played with the idea of adding internal lighting.

Most base colours were done with the airbrush, and details were done with layers using a mix of citadel and reaper paints.

Finished Xmen diorama at 50%

I finally finished up the last two figures on the X-men vs Sentinel diorama.  I joined the preorder in early march, and it was released around the start of our lockdown.  I started with a full size version, but once I had it all printed I decided I needed a 50% size one that I could actually display.  That's what this is.  Storm and Jean were a stretch bonus that I had to pay extra for.

Snake-Eyes

Here's a new addition to my showcase.  Its a 3d printed Snake-Eyes fan model.  I messaged the owner and he sent me the files, my brother cleaned them up a bit in zbrush, and printed them in resin.  Actually, he printed 2 copies, one for him, one for me.  I painted them both, and here's the one I kept.

Yeah, I'm still finishing up my Chibi X-men, but this guy was pretty simple so he jumped the queue.

Xmen diorama 50% scale almost done

So after getting started on the full size diorama I realized that I wouldn’t have anywhere to display it. As a result I also started a 50% scale version. It’s been much faster to paint and I’m almost done. Here’s what it looks like when I dry fit all the painted stuff.

I decided that I needed to do a version of this at 50% because the full size one is too big to display.  At this size it'll fit nicely in my Ikea Detolf case.  So far everything is being done in PLA at super fine settings and is looking nicely, but the rest of the figures will be done in resin by my brother.  Chubi charactors are possible to do in FDM, but supporting and thin pieces are tricky, so resin is better for that.

X-Men diorama - Colossus WIP

Making some progress on the guys on my work bench.  Here's Colossus.  I airbrushed the silver (Vallejo Gunmetal + Vallejo Aluminum highlight) and brushed on the red and yellow.  I'll do some highlighting of the colors and add a GW gloss wash to the silver.  Maybe some other washes to add depth between colours, but overall a pretty simple paint scheme.

X-Men Diorama progress - Beast

Here's some progress on my X-men v Sentinel diorama.  I got my airbrush out last night and got the beast painted up.  I did some brush work on his fur to bring out the highlights, and I may go back and do another round, but overall I'm pretty happy with how it is looking.

X men vs Sentinel

This thing is turning out tube huge.  I've got almost everything printed, but I had a jam last night, so the Cyclops beam is delayed... I was printing it in clear filament so it could be lighted later.

If anybody's interested, there are still spots left to support this for $25 USD + paypal fees.  Quite a good deal for the quality you get.  If there are 8 more backers backers they'll add Jean Grey and Storm to the package (image below).
