Lamartes Showcase

Here's another showcase video, this time of Lamartes, guardian of the lost.  I painted this guy when he came out with the old codex, and really spent a lot of time on the details.  I think I like how the lenses in his eyes turned out the most.

The Sanguinar Showcase

Here's a showcase of a model I painted a few years back.  This was one of my first major NMM attempts, and probably one of the best. Partly because I had some good reference photos and was willing to spend time working on him.

Here's the post for the tutorial:

Captain Karlaen Painting video and guide

Here's the finished tutorial of Captain Karlaen from Deathstorm.  I find these single characters a lot of fun to paint, but when it comes to full units all those extra details makes it pretty tedious.

Anyway, as usual, a painting guide is below, which is basically what I followed in the video.  This is also similar to the White Dwarf paint splatter article, except I like to do all the base colours at once (rather than start and finish each colour).  This helps reduce touch ups on finished areas and prevents missing areas that need to be totally redone.

Captain Karlaen Showcase

I finished this guy up last night and am working on the tutorial now... but here's a nice showcase of him.  I painted him mostly unassembled and as I finished different steps did partial assemblies.  This helped get in some of the hard to get areas.  His details are very similar to the space hulk terminators, so I suspect that the same is true for the new blood angels terminators (haven't seen them in person yet).

Captain Karlaen WIP

So I caved to the pressure and picked up a Deathstorm box.  I "needed" the captain special character, and am interested in trying out some Tyranids.  Anyway, I'm doing up Captain Karlaen in the standard colours and will do a video of him when I'm done. It might double as a space hulk how-to since he's decorated to the same sort of level.

Anyway, he's coming along nicely, and I'm past all of the hard bits... I did most of the painting before assembling him, and the pics below show how I've got him currently.

How to paint Sanguinary Guard

Here's an updated tutorial for Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard.  I did one of these in the my old format a long time ago, but here it is in speed painting (2x) format using the current Citadel paints.

The old tutorial (along with pics) can be found here:

Space hulk 2009 Unboxing

I'm excited about the re-release of Space Hulk... its a good chance for me to finish painting the figures from the 2009 version.  I dug up some pictures from the archives (below) to show what was in the box that time around.  I'm also working on some painting tutorials to get up for the new edition. From what I've read the contents are virtually the same.  I'm curious to see the special rules for other chapters... maybe they'll release rules for other races like they did back with 2nd edition Space Hulk.

2012 Year in Review

Ok, so I guess its that time of year to look back and see what I accomplished in the hobby during 2012.  Outside the hobby world it was a busy year for me... I finished up my master's degree, switched jobs, moved to a new town and had some excellent vacations.

Terminator Librarian Finished (and video)

Here's that Terminator Librarian I had been working on before Dark Vengeance came out.  Video and lots of images after the break.

Terminator Chaplin WIP

Here's a guy that's been on my desk for a while and am finally getting around to doing.  Fun model and pretty straightforward.  I'm doing him as a blood angel, but he could very easily be changed to another chapter.

Blood Angels Landspeeder Tutorial

Here's pictures and video of the squad of Blood Angels Landspeeders I just finished.  Also included are the equivalent paints if painting with the new GW paints.  I didn't use the new paints on these as I started them a while ago.  The next video will be done with the new paints...

Blood Angel Landspeeder WIP

Here's some landspeeders I've been working on.  I think they'll be a nice additional set of missile launchers using a fast attack choice.

Blood Angels Tactical Squad

Here`s another painting video for a Blood Angels Tactical squad.  I painted these guys up a long time ago, but had to redo the video because it was done before I had a decent microphone.

Anyway, this is just a fast method to get the guys on the table top asap.

Brother Lemartes Tutorial

Another special character that I painted a while ago, but am only now posting a video.  I used some of the techniques from white dwarf for the legion of the damned models for this guy.  Lots of fun, and I'm happy with how he turned out.

Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard

Another painting video where I show play by play how I painted up a squad of 5 of these guys to a (high?) table top level.

Blood Angels Furioso Librarian Dread

Another one from the archives (almost caught, honest)... this one is of the Furiosi Librarian Dreadnought.  A neat model, decent on the table top, but not my favorite.  Simple but effective paint job here.

Blood Angels Brother Corbulo tutorial

Man, I'm finding some great gems that never made it online.  Here's the named Sanguinary priest, Brother Corbulo.

How to Paint Blood Angels Death Company

Merry Christmas everyone... I hope you were able to spend some quality time with the important people in your life and perhaps use some of your holidays to catch up on some hobby projects.

I finally got around to making a video for these guys... I painted them back when the Blood Angels book was new, but never made a video.

Blood Angels: The Sanguinar (NMM finished)

As featured in a couple work in progress articles, here's the finished product.  As an indirect review of the 'Eavy Metal Masterclass book, I'd say the articles are great.  This was originally published in WD 363 as a masterclass article.  The new masterclass book is a compilation of previously published articles and one additional one.  I really like the articles, and they were enough reason to buy the white dwarf in themselves.  That said, I don't know if I'll get the book since I have all the back issues... we'll have to see.

I'd say that my non-metallic gold is improving with each model I do.  I'm also pretty happy with the non-metallic silver bits.  Its still not perfect, and it helped a lot that I had a guide to go by.

Anyway, here's some pictures... video tutorial is below as well as all the paints I used.
