Astorath Complete

Finished this guy up last night, and was suprised how long it took to get all the details done. Actually, it was the scrolls that took forever. They don't usually take that long, but there are so many on this guy. I'll have to remember that for Sanguinar. I kind of followed the orc boar boy red armour from WD 364, except I did a black wash first. In hind sight I shouldn't have done such a dark wash on it, but by the time I figured that out I wasn't going to repaint it all. The wings were done similar to Lamartes, except I used a mix of pure black, water and badab black to tone down the highlights.

I bought my Astorath from mwg here

The other thing I did do was try a NMM gold. There are no metallic paints on this guy, and I'm fairly happy with the results. I'll have to keep working on that technique.

Astorath work in progress 2

Here's what he looks like now. I'm almost done... after these pictures all that's left are the scrolls, bone, and some small details like the seals and power weapon. One more decent sitting should do it. I did the wings similar to Lamarte's power armour, except I gave it a wash of water, pure black and badab black intead of just badab black. That should blend all the blacks and bring them down a bit. I might go over it with some more highlights, but I like how its looking now. I also did up his face, but its blown out in the photos because its really pale. I used the Reaper pale flesh triad and I like how it looks. It would be similar to using GW elf flesh.

Astorath the Grim Work in Progress 1

Here's a couple pics of the new Astorath model. I think this guy looks fantastic, except his head. I'm not sure how I feel about his tiara thing. Anyway, I'm doing up the armour with a decent amount of contrast and a paint scheme from the current white dwarf (mechrite red, blazing orange, vomit brown, with lots of shading). Everything else will be standard combinations from my growing BA army.

Astorath and Sanguinor

Just picked up Astorath, and man, this model is amazing. I would love to do a conversion by getting rid of the scrolls on the backpack and putting him on a flying base, but I don't have time for that... so he's going together without any conversions. Anyway... he's got an amazing pose and I can't wait to paint him up. Oh, and Sanguinor looks pretty good... I think I might give him a non metallic metal try. Should be ok since they did a masterclass in the latest white dwarf.
