Dark Angels Tactical Squad WIP

Here's some pics of the Dark Vengeance tactical marines.  They are a slight improvement from the Assault on Black Reach box set, but will be pretty poor compared to the rumoured tactical squad re-cut thats supposed to come out next year.  I started these guys out with a green spray paint to make the green base coat go faster.  Paints listed at the bottom of this post.

Quick Snotling Bases

Here are some snotlings I painted up quickly on the weekend.  I wanted to get a bunch of bases done up so that I can use them as charge redirectors.  They started with a green spray then I painted the bases Scorched brown.  From there the snotlings were painted Skarsnik green and washed with thraka wash.  The cloth was painted Rakarth Flesh, wood steel legion Drab and Metal was Leadbelcher.  All those got an Agrax Earthshade wash.  A little Terminatus stone drybrush on the bases and static grass and these guys were done.

Wolf Standard WIP 2

I've made a bit more progress on this guy... a little delayed because I'm getting geared up to work on my Dark Eldar.  I spent most of last night airbrushing the vehicles with the new GW paints.

But back to this guy... he's getting near completion as all the big areas are done and its just a mater of finishing off the pelts and smaller details.

OSL critique - Firebelly

Here's a link to an article from Ron at From The Warp about OSL featuring my attempt with the Ogre Firebelly I did a couple weeks ago.  Some good feedback for anyone trying the technique, and highlights some of the areas I can improve for next time.

Ogre mob WIP

Another unit in the pipeline... 6 ogres that I had previously stripped.  These were part of an army that I bought and stripped at the same time I picked up some of the new kits.  I'm using the same paint scheme as the other ogres, so I'm hoping to have a uniform looking army when I'm all done.  I haven't done any tattoos on these guys or blood stains... Not sure if I'm going do that, but I might wait until I have a workable army before I go and add those details.

High Elves Spearmen WIP

This unit is going to take for ever, but won't be anything particularly special... 40 high elf spearmen.  I used a silver spray paint base coat, so we'll see if that helps.  I followed that with a black wash and am putting the base colours on now.

Mangler Squigs Video Tutorial

Finished these guys up and put together a video.  Pretty cool model on the table, but I'm not that impressed with the casting.  I don't know if its just the one I got, or if they are all that way, but some of the detail isn't the greatest.

How to Paint Blood Angels Death Company

Merry Christmas everyone... I hope you were able to spend some quality time with the important people in your life and perhaps use some of your holidays to catch up on some hobby projects.

I finally got around to making a video for these guys... I painted them back when the Blood Angels book was new, but never made a video.

Mangler Squigs WIP

Here's how the mangler squigs are coming along.  Overall its a nice model, but I'm a little disappointed with the details on the finecast.  For the price and size this should be a centre piece of my army, but in the end I don't think the quality is quite there to fit that bill.  Things like the details on the goblins and the texture on the squigs aren't to my liking (more suited to drybrushing than layering).

Regardless, its a great looking model and will be fun to have on the table top.  Here's some pics:

High Elf BSB video tutorial

I posted about this BSB a while back, but finally had time to do the video (now that Dreadfleet is done).  The painting scheme is basically the same as the rest of my high elves.

Dreadfleet painting: Seadrake

And now the final ship for Dreadfleet... the High Elf Seadrake.  Nothing too fancy here... but boy am I glad to have this done.  Now back to 40k and fantasy projects.

Dreadfleet Painting Complete!

Wow, that took a while.  I have finally finished painting the whole Dreadfleet box and made videos of the whole process.  I'll post pics of each of the parts here, but two more videos will still be posted (they will be at http://www.miniwargaming.com/channel/ptgraham/ and http://www.youtube.com/user/MrWatchingpaintdry

It was a fun adventure, and I'm glad to have the whole set painted, but I wish I had done it a little faster.  Perhaps this will motivate me to paint up the rest of my space hulk set.

Anyway, here's some pics of each of the completed parts.  Now that this is done I'm open to new projects... any suggestions?  Please leave a comment below.

Dreadfleet: Shadewraith

I'm getting close... just two more ships after this one.  I hope to put some game play videos up before Christmas as they have been requested.  I'll work on those once the painting is complete... you wouldn't want to see any unpainted stuff, would you?

Dreadfleet: Grimnir's Thunder

Oops, I forgot to post this with all the stuff I've been posting the last couple weeks.  Here's the dwarf ship from dreadfleet.  Nothing too fancy, and the video is after the break.

Blood Angels: The Sanguinar (NMM finished)

As featured in a couple work in progress articles, here's the finished product.  As an indirect review of the 'Eavy Metal Masterclass book, I'd say the articles are great.  This was originally published in WD 363 as a masterclass article.  The new masterclass book is a compilation of previously published articles and one additional one.  I really like the articles, and they were enough reason to buy the white dwarf in themselves.  That said, I don't know if I'll get the book since I have all the back issues... we'll have to see.

I'd say that my non-metallic gold is improving with each model I do.  I'm also pretty happy with the non-metallic silver bits.  Its still not perfect, and it helped a lot that I had a guide to go by.

Anyway, here's some pictures... video tutorial is below as well as all the paints I used.

40k terrain wip

Here's a couple pics of stuff I'm working on for a game I'm planning on having this weekend with my brother.  We used to play 40k back in 1st and 2nd edition then took some time off before coming back to it.  Should be fun, and hopefully it doesn't lead to any fights.

I've got some 40k and fantasy stuff that I've been meaning to paint as well as my modular table, craters and jungle scenery.  Not pictured is the crashed aquilla that I have primed.

Santa Cruz Hono(u)r roll- Sanguinar

In reviewing my hit stats I saw a spike of refferals from Santa Cruz Warhammer, so I thought I'd check it out.  Well, it turns out my Sanguinar WIP grabbed their attention and earned me a spot on the Honor Roll (I'm honoured :)

Ogre Ironguts Painting Tutorial

Here's the video of my first Ogre unit.  I'm going to use this paint scheme for the rest of the army, probably with a little variation.  I was a bit concerned with the flesh, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out (had to do some final blending as explained in the video).  Let me know what you think, and suggest which unit you'd like to see next.

The Sanguinar WIP

Here's a couple pics of The Sanguinar, Blood Angels special character done in Non Metallic Metal.  I decided to do this guy because of the 'Eavy Metal painting guide that just came out.  I had the old White Dwarf that the article originally ran in (#363), and most of the other articles so I might do a review by proxy... or I might buy it... still undecided.

Anyway, I'm basically following the article, but using Reaper paints instead of GW ones.  Less mixing that way, and that makes for easier painting.

Colours used so far are (reaper unless otherwise specified):
Oiled Leather (base)
Palimino Gold (1st highlight)
Ruddy Leather (1st shade)
Devlin Mud (GW Wash, 2nd shade glaze)
Badab Black (GW Wash, 3rd shade glaze)

Still to come:
Buckskin pale (2nd highlight)
Pure White (final highlight)
Plus all the other areas...

Here's what I have done so far (more pics after the break).
