Ok, it took me a little while to get this video compiled, but here you go. In the video I show all the steps I took and give some suggestions about ways to do them a little differently. Whenever you try out something you usually realize during the process that there are better ways of doing it. For me I realized that they needed more colours after I did the diamond pattern, so I went back and added some bits here and there.
Also, someone commented on youtube about the brush I used for the fine lines. Yes, it looks like crap, but it has a good tip and is very predictable, so it works well with stuff like this. I should probably replace it, but for now its the brush I use for checkers and other fine designs.
A blog mostly about Warhammer 40,000 and Fantasy with a focus on painting and tutorials.

Harlequins Finished
Had a bit of time last night to finish these guys and gals. All that was left were some final highlights, so it went pretty quickly. Overall all I like the look, but might have preferred some brighter colours to make them stand out more in my Dark Eldar army. Regardless, they painted up nicely, and with only 6 of them were very manageable. I'd like to get some of the skimmers and characters, but I need to finish up Smaug first.
Video tutorial will be coming when I get a chance to record the audio.

Harlequin Progress
These guys are coming along nicely. I'm actually surprised that after two nights of painting I feel like I have solid progress. I was worried about the diamond patterns, but I think they turned out really well, so I thought I'd share. I'm using the same pallet as my Dark Eldar in hopes that they will ook like they belong, so that's where I came up with colour patterns. Up close you can see the errors, but I think the overall impression works.
I do think I want to add some more green and blue before finishing them up. Maybe gloves, boots, jackets, etc.

Harlequin Unboxing and Assembly
I caved and picked up a troupe box yesterday... I had wanted to wait until the full release came out before picking anything up, but these things are trickling out so slowly that I pulled the trigger. I'd like to put together a small band to complement my Dark Eldar, so I'll probably pick up a transport and character to go with these guys. I'm also considering the idea of converting wyches into Harlequins... might be a decent conversion project. The basic idea would be to put masks on heads and use Harlequin arms.
Also, a size comparison below the video...

Dark Eldar Archon unboxing and assembly
Here's a quick look at the new Plastic Archon model that came out with the Dark Eldar release... I've wanted to open him up and assemble earlier, but haven't had the time.
I'm not a huge fan of this model due to the statuesque pose, but the detail is pretty cool. I left his head and trophy rack off for painting, but assembled everything else. I suppose you could make a case for leaving off his cape, but I didn't want to deal with any gaps on his shoulders.

I'm not sure when this guy will get painted up, but here's a look at him compared to the finecast crap version I painted a little while back. Unboxing and assembly video after the break.
Dark Eldar Kabalite Warriors
Its been a while since I've posted anything, so here's an older tutorial for my Dark Eldar Kabalite warriors. I've got a bunch of Dark Eldar that need to be painted, and I'd like to catch up on them when I get a chance. In the mean time, here's a tutorial showing the basic paint scheme for my army.
Dark Eldar Talos Pain Engine Tutorial and Painting guide
I picked up this model a long time ago when I was first starting my Dark Eldar Collection. The base colours were airbrushed along with a ton of other stuff in my army, so I don't have video of that. I like the look of this guy, although I'm not sure he'll ever see a table top. Anyway, its in the regular dark eldar paint scheme and the guide is below along with the video. Enjoy.
Dark Eldar Scourges (Finished and Painting guide)
Its been a while since my last Dark Eldar painting tutorial, so I thought I'd do the Scourges I've had waiting. I painted a whole ton of dark eldar base colours with my airbrush a while back, so I kind of skip that step in this tutorial. I basically took the main armour colours and sprayed the progressive highlights from above to give some object source style lighting. After that I drybrushed them with Helion green dry to bring out some of the edges. This means the base colours are pretty standard across my army, but don't really add much to the final look of the model.
Dark Eldar Archon Tutorial
Here's the final video tutorial for the Dark Eldar Archon I had showed. I did this one in the 4x speed version and the paints I used are below.
Dark Eldar Archon WIP
I've been meaning to paint this guy for a while, and before I jump onto more High Elf stuff I thought I'd change pace. I'm going to do the majority on my painting rig, so there won't be any pictures, just video. That said, to save a bit of time I did the base colours first since there's nothing too interesting about those.
On a side note, I really hate finecast. The detail on this model is far worse than anything (recent) out of metal or plastic. I really hope GW is able to replace everything with those single figure plastic sprues soon.

2012 Year in Review
Ok, so I guess its that time of year to look back and see what I accomplished in the hobby during 2012. Outside the hobby world it was a busy year for me... I finished up my master's degree, switched jobs, moved to a new town and had some excellent vacations.
Completed Razorwing flyer
Here's my latest Dark Eldar completion. I've got lots of stuff in the pipeline, but I thought with all the flyer talk I'd finish this guy off. I'm thinking its missing something, but I'll address that once I get a good chunk of the army finished and decide whether or not I do a free hand design.
Dark Eldar Wyches Finished
Here's the squad of Wyches I was working on... I used all the same colours as the warriors with the addition of the combat drug tubes in blue. I had a chance to practice those on the venom gunners so these went pretty straight forward. There's a little more gold and purple on these guys so they definitely stand out, but fit in with the rest of the army (so far). Paints are at the bottom of this post.
Dark Eldar Wyches WIP
In between assembling my new flyers I've been working on these guys. They are coming along nicely and will double the number of troops I have complete for my dark Eldar list.
Dark Eldar Venom Complete
Finished up the two Venoms I was working on... Saving the extra riders and trophy poles for another time.
Same paints as the Kabalite warriors, and at the bottom as per usual.

Dark Eldar Venoms WIP
Here's the next thing in my dark eldar list. I base coated these with my airbrush at the same time as the warriors and a bunch of raiders, so the details are all that are really required. Same paint scheme and I haven't added any fancy designs to the body (yet). I hope to do that once I have a full army done and can do that all at once.
Dark Eldar Kabalite Warriors finished
Here's my first finished unit for my dark Eldar army. I took a while to figure out what colors I would use, but I ended up with a standard scheme. I used the painting guide from the new how to paint citadel miniatures, but swapped the green instead of the blue they did.
Anyway, I'm pretty happy with how they turned out and am excited to get a force big enough to play with.

Dark Eldar Kabalite Warriors WIP
Here's how these guys are progressing. I posted last week about giving them a base coat with my airbrush, well now I'm laying down the other base colours. I'm following the painting guide from the 2012 How to Paint Citadel Miniatures, except for the armour which I've done in greens with my airbrush. Coming along nicely and should have this batch of 10 done quickly enough.
After the airbrushed base colours I drybrushed them with the Helion green dry paint to pull out the edge highlights.

Dark Eldar Airbrushing base coats
Here's some pics of the first stages of my upcoming Dark Eldar army. Like I've mentioned before, I've accumulated enough stuff for an army and now just need to paint it all... so to help speed that up I've airbrushed the base colours on the vehicles. I used the dark eldar green blue base and layers. I started with a black spray then covered everything with the Kabalite base and did the highlights with the corresponding layers.
For using the new paints in the drybrush I watered them down about 50/50 with water. They seemed to work well and I didn't have any issues. I bought a bunch of disposable droppers from ebay to transfer the paints to the airbrush and mix the water. This meant I didn't have to pour them and worry about wasting them.
