Underworlds Eyes of the Nine

Another warband painted up for Warhammer Underworlds.  These guys were a combination of contrast paints and standard methods to get a decent outcome in a reasonable amount of time.  One of the challenges with this warband is that there's such a diversity in painting the different troops.

2012 Year in Review

Ok, so I guess its that time of year to look back and see what I accomplished in the hobby during 2012.  Outside the hobby world it was a busy year for me... I finished up my master's degree, switched jobs, moved to a new town and had some excellent vacations.

Realm of Battle Finished

Here's a walk through tutorial showing how I painted up the Realm of Battle modular board from Games Workshop.  It is on the pricey side of things, but nice details and durable.  I've also done a modular table for much cheaper if you want to check out that video.

I had my first games on this on the 27th with my brother and it was a blast. I also made up a wood frame to keep everything together and stable on top of a table that isn't quite 4 feet wide.  I'll have to make up a tutorial for that one when I get a chance.

Realm Of Battle

Another project... this just arrived today.  I ordered the Realm of Battle modular game board so that I could have a nice table that can be put away.  I like the idea of something more durable than a table made out of MDF and I haven't come up with a reliable way of making hills that will match up as nicely as this bad boy.

I've got to get it all painted before Christmas, and I've got a bunch of scenery I'd like to get done for then as well.  Hopefully I'm able to get that done along with all my other projects.  I'll be sure to post pics as I go and a video of the process once I'm done.

Dark Vengeance assembly 1

I've been assembling the dark angels from the Limited Edition box and have a couple observations.  The first is that some of the terminator are very similar to the space hulk ones and the second is that the marines are very similar to the Assault on Black Reach ones.  The characters are much better quality, so I'm really looking forward to painting them.

High Elf Teclis Finished (painting tutorial)

Here's that Teclis model I was working on a while ago.  He painted up quite quick (two evenings) using the same paint scheme as the rest of my high elves.  Nothing fancy, just a quick paint job to get him up to the level of the rest of my army.  Painting video after the break.

Thunderwolf Calvary part 2 (finished)

Here's the second and final part for the Thunderwolf Cavalry painting tutorial.  These guys paint up fairly fast and are fun models.  Can't wait to see them on the table top.

New GW paint chart

I've been hearing about this for a while now, and just came across this over at http://taleofpainters.blogspot.ca/2012/03/rumours-new-citadel-paint-range-colour.html

I'm super excited.  I love the reaper triad system, and will enjoy having the matched sets for GW paints as well.  It makes painting super easy and eliminates a lot of mixing.

Ogre Thundertusk WIP

Another project that I have on the go is my Ogre Kingdoms Thundertusk.  I airbrushed a base coat on the fur last week and I'm done doing highlights on the individual strands now with Reaper Golden Blond.  I really like this model, so its jumping the queue a little.  Should get back to the Thunderwolves...

Fenrisian Wolves Assembled

Here's some pics of the new Fenrisian Wolves all assembled.  They go together nicely in 4 pieces.  The bodies are labeled and it appears the heads are interchangeable.  Nice poses and texture, so they should paint up nicely.  They will also go well with my converted dire wolves and on the table top you won't be able to tell the difference (much).

Thunderwolves Painting Part 1

In this post I'm showing how to paint the giant wolves with some live action video and commentary.  I'm using Scorched brown, Bestial brown, Snakebite leater, Vermin brown and bleached bone in progressive layers of dry-brushing/over-brushing/stippling.  The second video will be painting the space wolf marines on their backs.

More Thunderwolf pics

Here's a couple more pics of the thunderwolves before I paint them.  I put some gel medium on the bases to help give some shape once I add snow to them.  These guys are primed now and will be painted up next.

High Elves Techlis WIP

Here's a nasty character that I'd like to learn how to use, but need to paint first.  He's going to be quite fast, so here's a couple hours work and halfway already. Just using the same paint scheme as the rest of my High Elves, so nothing special, and much easier than painting 40 guys at once.

Thunderwolf Assembly

Here's some pictures of the new Thunderwolf Calvary models I just assembled.  I didn't know exactly what loadout to use, so I'm going with 1 plain, 1 with melta bombs, and 1 with thunderhammer.  That should total 185 pts and have full wound allocation.

The models are good looking in person and assemble well.  The different wolves are marked and there's a couple options for the robotic legs and one extra head.  The riders come with lots of options and I'm pretty happy with the bits.

High Elves Spearmen Complete

Here's the video tutorial for the High Elves I have been working on for a while.  I cut the process short a little because I desperately wanted them done.  Back in high school I painted some high elf spearmen for a guy named Barney and it was a painfully dull process.  This was marginally better, but doing 40 at once is tough.

40k anniversary Model Done (Video)

Here's the video(s) and pictures I shot while painting the Rogue Trader cover tribute model. I captured some steps to show how I painted it, and shot photos along the way as well.  I tried to intersperse the photos as appropriate, but they some might be out of place.  Hopefully the music isn't too loud.

25th anniversary model Done

Here's some of the finished pics of the Warhammer 40,000 25th anniversary model (Rogue trader cover tribute) completed.  Not much to say, but there will be a stage by stage painting video of the model, not the slide show with commentary... actual brush strokes type thing.  Hopefully I'll have that up tonight.

Crimson Fist Anniversary WIP 2

Another work in progress set for this guy.  As you'll see by the end I'm getting pretty close.  The major areas are done, and I just have to work on the details.  That should just take another night of painting to finish up.  I'm trying to shoot video of each section I'm painting to put together into a tutorial, so I'll be putting that up once he's done.  We'll see if that makes for a better tutorial, or if I just stick with the format I've been doing before.

Warhammer 25th Anniversary model

Here's an unboxing and assembly video of the Rogue Trader tribute model GW released for the 25th Anniversary of Warhammer 40,000.  I first started 40k in the rogue trader era, although it wasn't in 1987, sk I feel a little nostalgia for this stuff.  I also picked up one of the posters and would like to frame it.  Anyway, here's the video...

Canis Wolfborn painting video

I decided to pull this out of the archives and put together a commentary video since the new plastic thunderwolves are coming out.  I've got mine on preorder from miniwargaming.com and should be getting them in a week.  In the mean time, here's some pics and a video of Canis Wolfborn.... who might actually see the table top (perhaps as someone other than himself).
