Underworlds Eyes of the Nine

Another warband painted up for Warhammer Underworlds.  These guys were a combination of contrast paints and standard methods to get a decent outcome in a reasonable amount of time.  One of the challenges with this warband is that there's such a diversity in painting the different troops.

Finished Slaughter Priest - free white dwarf mini

I managed to get a few more hours and finish this guy up.  He's surprisingly large, which the 40mm base kind of hides in the pictures.  Anyway, finished up using the paint splatter article, with a few substitutions and change of order.  I like how he turned out and if I ever get around to doing the khorne half of the age of sigmar starter set then I'll use the same general paint scheme.

Here's a couple pics of my completed Assassinorum box set.  As I mentioned, it took a while to get this done, but that's the reality these days.  I need to align my purchasing patterns with the time I have available for assembling and painting, so completing this now should line up nicely with the Age of Sigmar release.  I hope to pick up the new white dwarf with the free mini.

Speaking of White Dwarf, is GW going to rename this with the new Dwarf name (steamhead duardin)?

Assassinorum Chaos Finished

Finally, I can say these guys are done.  I motored through the 4 assassins relatively quickly, but things slowed down for the rest. I didn't do anything special for the forces of Chaos, so they are similar to my Dark Vengeance guys.  For the sake of time I didn't bother filming anything for a tutorial, but because they are basically the same as my dark vengeance guys there are already tutorials for those here:

I'm happy with having the box finished since its nice to have something totally done before moving onto the next project (a problem I have).

Assassinorum Chaos Progress

I haven't forgotten about these guys, in fact I'm almost done.  I did the cultists in a similar fashion as the ones from dark vengeance, so they painted up pretty quick.  This is a base coat, dark brown wash (army painter strong tone) and a single highlight.  The marines and sorcerer are also similar to my dark vengeance guys so they can be mixed in (or at least go on the same shelf).  I should finish these guys with enough time to do one model or unit before the Age of Sigmar stuff comes out.

Assassins pictures

I'm working on painting the Vindicare assassin, and he's coming along quite well.  No pics to share of the progress yet, but I've got the base coats and shades all done.

Here are some pictures of the assembled models before base coating them.  I included the Chaos lord since that model is new to me.  There's also a couple animated gif's that google auto-awesomed for me.  Pretty impressive and should paint up relatively quickly since the paint scheme is fairly simple.

Old Blood Thurster and daemons

Lets take a moment and be thankful for our new plastic Crack.  Here's a couple pictures of some old metal daemons of chaos.  I painted these up some time in the 90's.  Yep, that's a 40mm square base on the Blood Thurster.

Remember trying to glue metal?  Man that sucked.  I don't know if it was the super glue back then, or if it was something I was doing wrong, but it was terrible.

Cypher Conversion

Here's a quick and easy guide showing how to make your own Cypher, the fallen angel, out of a bunch of regular bits.  The kitbash is based on a Dark Angels veteran robed body and adds Chaos arms (storm bolter arms from the Chaos vehicle sprue), a Chaos Warriors (WFB) sword and some more space marine and dark angels bits.  Its not 100% accurate, but hits the main points and will look good once painted up.

Dark Vengeance Complete

After much distraction and delay, I have completed all of the miniatures that are included in the Dark Vengeance starter set.  I have made tutorials for everything except the second set of cultists (coming when I get time).  This was a fun set to paint since there are so many different things and not too many troops to get bored with.  You should be able to see all the posts by using the "Dark Vengeance" label.

Hellbrute Finished

Here's te finished Hellbrute from the Dark Vengeance starter set.  I followed the citadel how to paint Dark Vengeance ipad app for all the colours, but took some liberties with the techniques.

Hellbrute WIP

Yeah, I know, I'm working on the Hobbit stuff now, but in between steps I've been painting this guy up.  Its a fun model and I find dreadnoughts to paint up fairly quickly (better than the bikes I still have to do).  Anyway, here's what he looks like so far.  Basically I sprayed him dark brown, did a quick gold base coat, added red base on the red areas and gave it an agrax earthshade wash.

Chaos Cultists Finished

Here's the finished first batch of Chaos Cultists from the Dark Vengeance set.  I did these guys pretty quickly as they are going to be a fodder unit not lasting very long on the table.  Pretty simple paint scheme using a base, wash and then highlighting with the base colour.  Paint list shown at the bottom of the post.

Oh, and someone over on youtube pointed out I painted the Sergent's mask skin colour.  I didn't realize it was a mask, so I'll have to go back and fix that.

Chaos Cultists WIP

Here are some work in progress pics of the Chaos Cultists from Dark Vengeance.  I'm doing these guys up quick with a base, wash and highlight method.  The highlight on the cloaks will be the same as the base to make it a bit more muted.

Chaos Lord Kranon Tutorial

Here's the Lord Kranon Tutorial as well as the paints I used to paint him up (at the bottom).  I missed a couple of the paints in the tutorial but they are shown at the end of this post.

Here's the second batch of Work in Progress shots for Lord Kranon.  The next thing on my painting table is the tactical squad from Dark Vengeance, then probably on to the cultists.

Dark Vengeance Lord Kranon WIP

A couple pictures of the latest guy from the Dark Vengeance set, Chaos Lord Kranon the Relentless.  Cool model and nice to spend a bit more time on him than the Chosen marines.  I used all the same colours as the chosen but didn't give the brown wash to the red areas.  This should help make him stand out a little more on the table top.

Here are finished Chosen Marines and a tutorial showing how I painted them up.  Like I say in the video the bronze trim adds a lot of time to the steps and I'll be happy when I'm through the Chaos in this set.

Chosen Marines WIP 2

Here's another batch of work in progress shots of these guys.  Someone asked what I meant by a metallic base last post... I'm saying paint them the darkest metallic first (the whole model) then pick out the colours on top of it.  Give that a wash to shade and disguise any mistakes then start highlighting.

Dark Vengeance Chosen Marines WIP 1

Here's the first set of pics for the Chaos Chosen Marines from Dark Vengeance.  The detail is pretty cool on these guys, but I always find the metallic edging takes a lot of extra time.  This was true for Space Wolves, and I'm seeing it again with these guys.  It'd almost be better to start with a complete coat of metallic, wash it then start painting the colours on top of that (like I do with some ork stuff).  Anyway, too late for that with these guys, so here we go...

Also, I've added the paint swatches to the end of the post... I usually do that with the final video, but I figure it might help now too.
