Deathwatch Genestealer Cult progress

I've bee slowly working on the genestealer cult from the deathwatch box.  My goal is to have a simple paint scheme, but my lack of free time has made this a longer than hoped progress.  The purestrains, primarch and familiars are basically done now, and the hybrids have the base coats.

For the purestrains blue and purples I have been using reaper paints, and I really like how bright the colours are on them.  For the hybrids I need to do some washes and finish up the lights before moving onto the cultists and characters.

How to Paint NMM Gold

Here's a tutorial showing (at 2x speed) exactly how I painted the non-metallic metal on the Phoenix Guard I just did.  There were a bunch of requests on youtube for a tutorial like this where I film the whole process.  I've mentioned before that I use Reaper paints for this, but in this I have used GW paints.  I get a lot more requests for the specific GW paints, but I actually prefer the Reaper ones for NMM.  They have a slightly more yellow look straight out of the bottle, which I like.  To due true NMM you would want to use more steps, but this is a quick process that is great for blocks of troops.

40k rejects sequel (Zombies!)

Here's some models that I've painted up for miniwargaming.com and the upcoming sequel for the very popular 40k Rejects series (episode 1 of 15 here). Some of my models were featured in different episodes, so you may recognize some if you watch them all.

Anyway, in the new year MWG is going to be doing another stop motion series, but this time with zombies and Reaper mini's. Here are some work in progress shots of the main characters.

Reaper Bone Triad

I managed to fit in a little painting last night... this time working on my black orcs. I'm adding the bone coloured bits right now and using the Reaper Bone colours for it. This is one of the aspects of the Reaper range that I like; the organization of colours into triads. I layer things the same, however I don't really need to mix things and I always know what colours will work together. I also know that the colours will end up looking the same across my army since I'm not mixing things each time. It ends up being a bit more expensive (because I'm buying more paints), but I like results.
