Space Hulk Battle Report

So, after that week of trying to get my terminators table top ready I faced off against Joe at Miniwargaming.com (you may remember him from: Joe on the Road, Eldar Tatica X, and Orktoberfest). Of course, because of the recent threat of H1N1, Joe insisted on playing with a mask and gloves until it was established that I didn't have a recent or worsening cough or fever.

Joe decided to keep the gloves on to help prevent giving the dice the usual curse that he seems to have.

Anyway, in the narriative campaign that Matt has lined up it was decided that we would play mission IV. I was the marine player, and Joe the Tyranids. In setting up I put my sergents last because I was going to leave them behind to cover my flanks and put the flamer and assault cannon in the lead.

Anyway, I ended up losing my assault cannon, and 3 other terminators, but won the game with my flamer taking out both rooms. It came down to the wire, and if I hadn't drawn 4 command points in the last turn I probably would have lost (I needed some extra because it takes 2 for the flamer to fire). It was a lot of fun, and much more enjoyable with (almost) painted terminators. After the space hulk games were done a bunch of city fight games were played (I didn't participate in those). Next weekend is Planet assault, and in three weeks an Apocalypse game.

Space Hulk Terminators - Khemri brown

Added the base coat of Khemri brown to the parchment and finished off the gold on two that I didn't get to today. Man, I love using foundation paints, especially after using gold. For some reason gold goes on like crap... it has terrible coverage and dries on the brush pretty quickly. The foundations, obviously from their name, cover great with one coat even thinned down a bit.

These guys are about as far as I'm going to get them for tomorrow's Space Hulk / Planet Strike event at Miniwargaming. I'm sure there will be videos, which will be posted in the VIP members area, then in 3 months they will be posted to the public.

Spack Hulk Terminators - Gold

Ok, now things are starting to look proper. I've got most of the black done as well as the gold base colour. I say most, because I'm sure I'll find stuff that I'll have to go back over. Anyway, next will be the stuff on the shoulder pads as well as the purity seals. With those done I should be ready for the game Saturday.

Space Hulk Terminators - Orange

I was able to finish the blood red highlights yesterday... at about a half hour per model. Now that that's done I'm doing edging with Blaze Orange. I've finished one model, and that is seeming to take for ever as well. Click the pictures below to see them larger.

Space Hulk Terminators more red

Seeing red... and I think I'm finally getting the results I wanted. After yesterday's post I caved and gave them a watered down devlin mud wash.

This was good, except that I used flow improver and ended up with some white crustys on some of the models. This should be easy enough to fix, but it kind of sucks because it means more work needs to be done. (You can see it in this pic).

Anyway, after that I decided I needed to brighten up the red, and I'm doing that with very thin layers of GW Blood red. I'm basically repainting all the highlights with a 5/0 brush and almost no paint. I was able to finish 3 terminators with this method, and I'm confident it will get me the result I'm looking for.

After this step I'll have to do the edging with some orange and the sharp corners with something even brighter, but it will look awesome.

Oh, and I drilled out the barrels of the bolters. I might have used too small of a bit, so that might require another go at it.

Space Hulk Termi's

Like I need another distraction... but with the upcoming Tyranid invasion campaign over at Welland Warhammer club (miniwargaming.com) I've decided to try and get my terminators ready for next Saturday. The campaign will start with a space hulk game, then some city fight. The next week will be planet strike, then followed up with an Apocalypse game. I disassembled my space hulk terminators (pictured below) and have since sprayed them a deep red. Hopefully that makes them fairly easy to paint up quickly.

Space Hulk this Saturday

Well, it looks like my plans may have changed. I was hoping to play in the WFB 'ard boyz tournament this Saturday, but due to my lack of time to work on the list and models I've decided to bail. My other local club is hosting a Space Hulk day, and asked me to bring my copy along. I think I'll give that a go.

Space Hulk Preorder

I just put in my order... can't wait for September 5th. Miniwargaming.com (banners on the right and bottom of the page) has it for 10% off. Clicking on them also gives me a small kickback to help feed the monster. Or you can click here to go straight to the Space Hulk preorder page.

I vividly remember playing the orginal Space Hulk back in the early 90's. Then there was Advanced Space Crusade and the introduction of Tyranids... man, those were the days. Anyway, the models that come with this edition look like they are going to be top notch.

GW Mystery box?
