Warhammer Forge Goblin Shaman (video plus painting guide)
This one was a quick project inbetween some of the longer ones to give me a break. Fantasy models tend to paint up quicker, so can be a bit more rewarding because they are done faster. This guy is from the night goblin command squad, and has some really cool effects with the smoke. I'm not sure I did it justice, but it painted up quick, so I'm happy to move on.

Night Goblin Tutorial
Another painting tutorial for my Orcs and Goblins. These little critters paint up fairly quickly, but you need a ton of them. As usual, the video is after the break and the painting guide (in pictures) is at the bottom of the post.
Night Goblin 4x speed painting video
Here's my first real attempt at doing a video showing the painting process I use. I've done a first person video before for MWG, but I didn't like how I had to try and keep the figure in the middle of the frame. So, I made up this rig that allows me to move the mini in all directions while keeping it in the middle of the frame and in focus. I'm not happy with the lighting in this video, but I'll fix that for the next one. Any requests?
More Night Goblins WIP
Here's a couple more pictures of my night goblins with purple shields. If you check the archives I've done two other units and colour coordinated them... check the tag "night goblins" for the other two units... although I'll have to do some more to fill out those units. Maybe I'll do some of those unit fillers that GW is slogging these days.

Magnetized bases and movement trays
Here we go, finally have a good result with this project. I've already covered how to add magnets to bases and using magnetic sheets for your trays but I think this is a better (an cheaper) method. The secret ingredient is magnetic paint.

I picked mine up at Michael's craft store (about $10 with a coupon), and its more than enough for all of my needs. 2 or 3 coats is required to get the magnets to stick well. I also used proper green stuff this time, and it works better than the other 2 part putty I was using. A small amount of ribben did 43 night goblins and 10 spider riders. Super glue of course between layers.

The magnets you see there are the 1/8" x 1/16" from store.miniwargaming.com. $15 gets you 100, so its not too expensive to do whole units.
And of course, everything hold really nicely.

Night Goblins unit 2
Wow, I think I'm getting faster. This unit of Night Goblins went much faster than the last bunch. These had the red done (based and highlighted) and green skin base coated a while back, but the rest was done in about 5 hours total. Started with the brown belts, boots and wrapping on the spear. Then I base coated the shields a mix of Astronomican grey and Chaos black. Bolt gun metal for the spear tips and any exposed chain mail or belt buckles. The grey and silver were then given a black wash. Next was the green spears and shields. This was done with the pale green triad from Reaper (Jungle Moss, Highlands Moss, and Pale Lichen). When this was done I highlighted the skin with Scorpion Green and gave the skin a green wash. When this dried I did the teeth off white and the eyes with deep red then blood red (reaper). The browns were given highlights with the earth brown triad (same as the last night goblins) and that was about it. Since this batch went so fast I included the other 20 when I did the eyes, and touched up the yellow on their shields (gave it a wash and lighter yellow highlight).

Night Goblins finished
Well, it turns out that I only needed one more night to get these guys to a table top standard. I managed to get a bunch of painting done at the miniwargaming club last night, and was able to finish them off at home. The only things that I'll have to go back and finish are their eyes (red) the yellow moons (need a highlight and wash) and the bases. I'm showing them here on a movement tray that I cast in resin. I'll have to do a tutorial on that on in the future.
Painting done last night:
GW Astronomican Grey Foundation (shield and boots)
GW Bolt gun metal (spear tip and chainmail)
black wash (shield, boots and spear)
GW scorpian green (skin hightlight)
GW Thraka wash (skin shade)
GW bleached bone (teeth)
GW Tausept Ochre Foundation (moons)
Reaper Earth Brown and Leather brown (spear and belt)

Night Goblins
Ok, so I had to take a small break from the trolls of yesterday while I filled some of the gaps. I used some super glue on them, and while they were drying I went ahead on some of the night goblins I had already started. I just added some GW Schorched brown to the spears and their rope belts. This will be hightlighted with the reaper earth brown triad.
