Finished Goblin on Gigantic Spider

Here's some finished pictures of the Goblin on the Gigantic Spider... I'll be doing a video of this shortly, but here's the pics.

Goblin warboss on Gigantic Spider

In anticipation of the new Orcs and Goblins I decided to work on this guy... the Forest Goblin Warboss on Gigantic spider. I've had him for a while, but only now am painting. More pics to come as I make progress.

Spider Riders done

Finally. These guys got bumped due to the space hulk game last week, but I've finally finished them off. I decided on blue for the feathers (reaper Sapphire, true and sky blue triad), and the moss green for the shields. I did the skin a little different than usual, and also used reaper greens for it.

Anyway, here they are. They already have magnets on their bases, so I just need to make a movement tray and add some magnetic paint to it.

Back to the Spider riders

Well, now that that Space Hulk distraction has passed, I'm back working on the Spider riders (I'll finish the terminators soon). Saturday afternoon I finished off the spiders and moved onto the riders. Turns out they have very little red on them, so the base coat isn't helping much. All that's left is the skin highlight and wash, red highlights, black and silver highlights and whatever colour I do the feathers (haven't decided yet). While that sounds like a lot it shouldn't actually take too long. They are basically table top ready at this point, but the little bits left will really add a lot.

Spiders almost done

I feel like I keep saying almost... but time has been limited (I've got a midterm tomorrow), so I'm just picking away at these. I managed to highlight the green, give it a green wash, paint the bases and base coat the fangs and stinger (they'll be off white).

Spider riders (done the red)

I think the red portions of the bodies are done on these guys. I finished the red/orange highlight and gave them a red ink wash. Then a black wash on the ends of the spider legs. I think they look decent enough, but in the process I realized that I should have airbrushed them. I guess I'll do the next batch that way.

Magnetized bases and movement trays

Here we go, finally have a good result with this project. I've already covered how to add magnets to bases and using magnetic sheets for your trays but I think this is a better (an cheaper) method. The secret ingredient is magnetic paint.


I picked mine up at Michael's craft store (about $10 with a coupon), and its more than enough for all of my needs. 2 or 3 coats is required to get the magnets to stick well. I also used proper green stuff this time, and it works better than the other 2 part putty I was using. A small amount of ribben did 43 night goblins and 10 spider riders. Super glue of course between layers.

The magnets you see there are the 1/8" x 1/16" from store.miniwargaming.com. $15 gets you 100, so its not too expensive to do whole units.

And of course, everything hold really nicely.

Even less progress

I barely had time to do anything last night, but I was able to add another layer of highlights to one spider. Its a combination of Macharius Solar Orange (foundation) and blood red. Just 9 more to go with this and I'll do a red wash and either a black wash or devlin mud.

Small progress with Spider Riders

I've been a bit busy with things (including the Ork Bastion posted yesterday), so my progress has been slow on these Spider riders. Anyway, I finished the green base colour and added a bit more red highlight. I think it still needs a brighter red edging and then maybe a wash or to to deepen it again.

Starting Spider riders

Now that the cave trolls are done I'm moving onto the next thing... Spider riders. These are from the Skull Pass set, and are the first of two batches. These were base coated with the same red that the rest of my army (Flat Burgundy red Krylon spray, Deep red touch up, blood red drybrush). Here I've started adding some green. I was using the miniwargaming club's reaper paints for that, but since I don't have that exact same one I'll probably use GW's goblin or snot green as a substitute.
